SE 7017 - Advanced Behavior Management & Instruction Credits: 3
Description In this course candidates will be provided with in-depth analysis of current research-based instructional approaches and behavioral intervention principles and methods to meet the needs of students with behavioral disorders. While this course will focus on many techniques for use in general education settings, it will also equip educators with specific skills in managing more intensive emotional, behavioral, and learning needs of students with behavioral disorders. Grounded in behavioral and learning theories, this course will highlight practical application of advanced strategies that address disruptive and defiant student behavior. Students will develop a repertoire of proactive Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies, as well as advanced classroom management (including both group and individual management techniques; group contingencies; teaching social behaviors and self-management) and crisis intervention strategies. Students will also conduct case studies, functional behavioral assessments and develop behavior intervention plans, while supporting the development of learners’ self-regulation skills.
