AS 4001 - AS4001 Civil Rights and Congress IICredits: 4 This two-part history course is based on the constitutional foundations of the civil rights laws passed by Congress during the modern rights movement. Part II is the second phase of the 20th century legislative struggle, beginning with the sit-in demonstrations and Freedom Rides in the South, and other aspects of nonviolent protests that brought worldwide attention to the wanton denial of civil rights for African American, which intensified pressure on Congress to pass civil rights laws and on the Executive Branch to adopt constructive policies to protect those constitutional rights.
