PE 4658 - Law and Civil Liberties

Credits: 4
This course is about your freedoms from government. It examines the historical evolution and philosophical and political underpinnings of constitutional civil liberties. We will analyze Supreme Court cases on such topics as speech, press, religion, privacy, searches, self-incrimination, counsel, trials, bail, and the death penalty-how do they affect what we can say and when and where, how we practice religion, how we make choices about our bodies, how we choose partners and form families, how we are policed and processed and punished. We will apply this knowledge to current events and policies, and assess their impact on the various groups in the United States.
