AS 2700 - The Engaged EyeCredits: 4 In this introductory course students are introduced to efforts by artists and reformers who use the camera, the paint brush, or other media for social change and social justice. The approach will be biographical and historical. Students will learn about the work of photographers such as Jacob Riis, Lewis Hine, and Dorothea Lange, or artists such as John Sloan, Ben Shahn, Alice Neel or Kara Walker, along with more contemporary photographers by placing their photographic or artistic projects within the context of the artist’s life and times.
