CS 7520 - Project Management


Credits: 3

Description Large or highly distributed projects are becoming more typical. Both being a good team member and an effective leader are of paramount importance in our more connected world. In this Project Management class, students will learn teamwork, collaboration skills and effective leadership. Additionally, as it relates to data science, ethics will be discussed.

An important part of the course will be understanding the project management cycle:

  • Define problem and Preparing project
  • Project planning
  • Project monitoring
  • Adapting project and redo (loop back to project planning until complete)
  • Complete project
  • Learn from that project
  • Use the project learning plus input from the enterprise to prepare next project.

Specifically, students will gain:

  • understanding of team work, collaboration and effective leadership;
  • understanding of the project management life cycle and of project management;
  • understanding conflict resolution and the possible vast differences of teams or individuals;
  • experience in quality assurance and risk management techniques;
  • exposure to ethics in data handling.


Prerequisites: CS 6110 .
