BU 7565 - Forensic Interviewing, Fraud and the Law

Description Instruction and skill development in interviewing, and note-taking in the criminal justice context. Development of skills to conduct investigations by interviewing witnesses, victims, and suspects properly. This course is designed to further the student’s knowledge of the contemporary legal environment faced by forensic accountants. Topics covered include the Federal Rules of Evidence (including the Daubert rule), the Federal Rules of Civil and Criminal Procedure, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the Federal False Claims Act, the grand jury, expert witness testimony, laws that preserve the rights of suspects and witnesses, including those pertaining to searches and seizures, arrest, the privilege against self-incrimination, and laws related to money laundering and terrorist financing (e.g., USA Patriot Act), wire fraud, mail fraud, and other fraud-related offenses. The course also provides an overview of offshore entities such as trusts and shell corporations. Other important topics the course examines are asset tracing and asset forfeiture alternative dispute resolution.
