CS 2700 - Introduction to Security FundamentalsCredits: 4 This course provides an essential introduction to the principles and practices of computer security, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to protect information systems. The course covers foundational topics in cybersecurity, including network security, cryptography, malware analysis, access control, and incident response. Students will explore the types of cyber threats faced by organizations, from individual hackers to organized cybercriminals, and learn how to develop effective security strategies.
Through hands-on projects, students will gain practical experience. The course also emphasizes security awareness and risk management, preparing students to identify vulnerabilities and mitigate risks in real-world scenarios. By the end of the course, students will be able to perform basic security assessments, understand core security mechanisms, and be ready for more advanced cybersecurity studies.
