CS 2000 - Ethics in Data Security and AICredits: 4 This course explores the ethical challenges and considerations in the fields of Data
Security and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students will examine the moral implications of
data collection, storage, and usage, with a particular focus on privacy, consent, and
transparency. The course will delve into the ethical dilemmas posed by AI systems,
including bias, fairness, accountability, and the societal impact of generative AI and
autonomous technologies. Through case studies, discussions, debates and theoretical
frameworks, students will learn to critically analyze ethical issues and develop strategies
for responsible decision-making in data security and AI development. The course
emphasizes the importance of aligning technological advancements with ethical
principles to ensure that innovations contribute positively to society.
Key topics include ethical theories, data privacy and security, data ethics, data privacy
laws and regulations, bias in AI, societal impact of AI, AI governance, and the future of
AI in society. Students will be encouraged to think critically about the role of ethics in
