The focus of this course is the impact of cultural contexts on counseling in a multicultural and diverse society. Such factors as culture, ethnicity, race, age, gender, sexual orientation, mental and physical characteristics, education, family values, religious and spiritual values, socioeconomic status, and other unique characteristics of individuals, couples, families, ethnic groups and communities are considered. The impact of social forces such as racism, sexism, classism, ageism, ableism, heterosexism, and other types of institutional and individual discrimination on the lives of clients and on the counseling relationship are central to the curriculum.

Prerequisites
Baccalaureate degree in Psychology or other relevant field; Admission into MHC program
