SY 6340 - Invisible Work Credits: 3
Description This course uses a sociological lens to examine types of work that, through interrelated cultural, legal, and/or spatial dynamics, are economically devalued. What makes some types of work “invisible,” and at what cost? Who does invisible work? Where, and under what circumstances, does this work happen? How do workers resist, or leverage, invisibility? Throughout the course students will engage with these questions by applying sociological concepts to popular debates, historical and contemporary illustrations, and original data.
