AS 5862 - The Journalist as Creative Writer

Credits: 4
Many American journalists have written fiction and creative nonfiction. This course examines both types of writing and studies, for example, the works of Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Joan Didion, Alex Haley, and Hunter Thompson. It explores “personal journalism” and the “new journalism” of the sixties and seventies. Students will practice literary journalism themselves by writing several fiction and non-fiction pieces.
