AS 3732 - Politics of MediaCredits: 4 Using a broad definition of politics -not only the world of elections or of governance, but of power relations in everyday life-this course examines how political structures affect the mass media, and how the mass media are a strong influence in politics. The ways in which the media promotes democracy and citizenship, but also constricts democracy, are central to the course. The branding of culture, corporate consolidation, and the images of women and minorities in the media are all examined, as are various forms of the media including film, the Internet, and television.
