SY 4830 - Gender and SocietyCredits: 4 Sociologists view gender as a socially constructed phenomenon - a characteristic of individuals, interactions, and institutions that is shaped by social context. This course examines the ways in which gender is constructed and maintained, and the ways in which these processes uphold social inequalities. Attention will be paid to the ways in which these processes are shaped by social dimensions such as race, ethnicity, social class, and sexuality as well as efforts to mitigate inequalities and to challenge normative gender constructs.
